Frequently Asked Questions
How does Macromo help with prevention?
Macromo offers a complex holistic approach to health and disease prevention. By combining your family history, genetic predispositions, blood tests assessing your current health state, and lifestyle data, we want to provide you with the full picture and equip you with knowledge on how to adjust your lifestyle (through changing your habits or undergoing regular check-ups, to name just a few ways) to prevent numerous diseases.
What is a DNA test and what do I get from it?
A DNA test is a way to read the genetic information stored in the DNA of your cells. The process involves taking a sample of cells from your saliva in the comfort of your own home and analyzing your genes. DNA tests will provide you with information about your genetic predispositions for various diseases, sports, nutrition, or sleep and allow you to adjust your lifestyle so that you are as healthy as possible and can enjoy a long active life. You can find a list of all the reports that you get with the DNA test here.
Can a DNA test diagnose cancer?
At Macromo, we do not diagnose cancer. Our DNA tests determine your predisposition to certain types of cancer based on your genetics. You can consult the results with your health professional if you have any concerns. DNA test should be used as a preventive tool, to inform you about possible risks and allow you to take action towards reducing them through lifestyle changes and regular check-ups.
Does genetics determine if cancer develops?
DNA test may indicate your genetic predisposition to develop certain types of cancer, although it doesn’t mean you will eventually develop the disease. However, it is important to note that cancer can be caused by random mutations that happen during cell division, and Macromo can’t check for those.
